GEO-01W Editor
Version: 5.10.0 (Dark/Light Glass)
v1.53.9 — New Combis Stay New
- Fixed: CREATE COMBI showed the new combination for a moment, then the 01/W's current one (e.g. Combi 1) came back. Entering Combi mode, the 01/W loads its own combination — the new one was sent before it had finished and was lost, and the editor then read Combi 1 back. A whole program or combination is now sent once the mode change has settled.
- New: after CREATE COMBI the editor reads the combination back from the 01/W; if the synth still has another one, it sends the new one again (up to twice), and tells you if it still didn't arrive.
v1.53.8 — One Set of Effect Settings
- Changed: the effects are now held only as each effect type's real settings (Reverb Time, Delay Feedback, Phaser Balance …). The leftover raw copies, P1–P8 and a general Balance, are gone, in programs and in combinations. They were from before all 47 types were mapped, and a stale copy is what made WRITE undo effect edits. Nothing changes on screen.
- Following edits made on the 01/W's own panel, effect presets, COPY / SWAP FX and copying a program's effects into a combination all work as before.
v1.53.7 — Effect Edits Are Written
- Fixed: after changing an effect's settings (Reverb Time, Delay, Feedback …) — with or without loading an effect preset first — WRITE stored the effect as it was before your changes: the preset's settings, or the program's originals. You heard your changes while editing, but the written program didn't have them. The effect knobs and the effect's raw bytes (P1–P8) are now kept in step, and WRITE stores exactly what you hear.
- Fixed: on Delay/Phaser and Delay/Rotary Speaker (types 46 / 47), WRITE could reset the Phaser / Rotary balance to match the main Balance.
v1.53.6 — Ready to Save, Every Time
- Fixed: the READY TO SAVE box now appears after every transfer from the 01/W, in every browser. Where the browser has no Save dialog (Firefox, Safari, or a page not served over https), SAVE AS… downloads the file and the box explains how to make the browser ask where to save.
- Fixed: after an update the browser could keep running the previous version's code from its cache. The editor's files now carry the version number, so a new version always loads.
v1.53.5 — Choose Where a Backup Is Saved
- Fixed: SAVE… → A full backup (and Sequence data) went straight into Downloads. The browser only opens its Save dialog right after a click, and the backup takes over a minute to arrive — so now, when it arrives, a READY TO SAVE box asks: SAVE AS… (choose the folder and name), DOWNLOADS FOLDER, or CANCEL. Any save that has to wait for the 01/W works the same way.
v1.53.4 — Cancel Building a Combi
- Changed: SELECT PROGRAMS FOR A COMBI now has CANCEL (instead of DONE): it stops selecting, forgets the picks and creates nothing. Esc does the same (with a dialog open, Esc closes the dialog first).
v1.53.3 — Effect Presets Filed by Effect Type
- Fixed: saving an effect preset asked for an instrument category. Effect presets are listed by effect type, so the dialog now just shows the type it's filed under (e.g. 04 Room), taken from the effect itself.
v1.53.2 — Library Updates Always Show
- Fixed: a library uploaded again (or deleted) kept showing the old presets unless its version in libraries/index.json was changed. Now every visit checks each library file on the server (date and size) and downloads it again when it changed; a deleted file disappears; index.json is always read fresh.
v1.53.0 — Preset Libraries from the Website
- New: on the hosted editor, the preset libraries listed in libraries/index.json load for everyone: their presets join the PRESETS menus (marked LIB, read-only) and their category tags apply in the Librarian. Kept in the browser and downloaded again only when a library's version changes. Switch a library off in Global › Backup & Restore.
- On the public site, importing / exporting category & preset files is hidden; your own presets still save in your browser (SAVE on any card) and can be deleted (✕ in a PRESETS menu).
v1.52.0 — Waveshape Presets Keep Their Table
- New: a Waveshape EG preset now carries its oscillator's waveshape settings too — table, velocity, emphasis — so the envelope and the table it was shaped for stay together. SAVE stores them; loading sets them on the oscillator whose card you're on. Older WS EG presets (envelope only) load as before.
v1.51.2 — Oscillator Presets Switch Single / Double
- Fixed: loading a Double oscillator preset onto a Single program left the 01/W in Single (OSC 2's settings only arrived once Double was switched on by hand). A preset that changes the mode now goes in all at once — mode, both oscillators and the rest — as one whole program. One Undo step.
v1.51.1 — Card Programs Categorised Right
- Fixed: AUTO-TAG read a PCM-card multisound as the ROM multisound with the same number — e.g. Orchestral Card's "SoloString" (card #0) as "A.Piano", so it was tagged Piano/Keys. A multisound now only hints at the category when it's from ROM; card programs are tagged from their names (SoloString, Viola → Strings, TrmptBrass → Brass).
v1.51.0 — The Editor Shows What You Sent
- New: after the 01/W confirms a restore or a send, the editor shows what's now on the synth — no read-back needed, it's exactly what was sent. A full backup (All Data) updates the Librarian's programs and combinations, the Global pages and the drum kits; Global settings / drum kit dumps update those. Without a confirmation you're told to SYNC HW instead.
- Fixed: SEND TO 01/W in Backup & Restore waited a fixed 60 s for the 01/W's OK — too short for a full backup with many songs (~1½ min); it now allows for the size.
v1.50.1 — One Way to Send a Disk
- Changed: LOAD WHOLE DISK is gone — it overlapped with → LIBRARIAN BANK A / B and SEND DISK. SEND DISK TO 01/W… is now one dialog: tick programs, combinations and / or a sequence file, SEND (no second dialog); the Librarian is updated to match. Drag & drop still just opens the disk to browse and audition; → LIBRARIAN BANK A / B is for editing before sending.
v1.50.0 — Sending Disks, Fixed
- Fixed: a disk with one bank file (100 programs, 100 combinations) sent only its sequence — the programs and combinations were quietly left out. Now the Librarian's whole bank goes (the disk's sounds plus the other slots), and the dialog says so; if the Librarian has empty slots you're told instead.
- Fixed: while sending, the meter could finish early (e.g. at the sequence) while the 01/W was still receiving: an OK from the synth answering something else (like a mode switch) was taken as "received". Now each dump waits for its own OK, which can't come before the data has crossed the cable, and the meter runs for the whole transfer.
- Changed: LOAD WHOLE DISK… and SEND DISK TO 01/W… are there for every disk. → LIBRARIAN BANK A / B goes straight on to "Send to the 01/W?" (NOT NOW keeps it in the Librarian only).
v1.49.5 — Long Dumps Explained, Never Lost
- Fixed: the receive bar told you to cancel if the 01/W's display showed nothing — but the 01/W never shows anything while it sends. A full backup with a large song set takes about 1½ minutes (confirmed: 294 KB, 94 s). The bar now says so.
- Changed: CANCEL only stops the editor waiting — the 01/W carries on sending (and doesn't respond) until it has finished. The dump is still kept when it arrives, and read-backs stay paused meanwhile.
v1.49.4 — No Automatic Mode Switch Before GET
- Changed: v1.49.3 switched the 01/W to GLOBAL by itself before GET All Data / Sequence Data; a lock-up followed, so that's removed. If the 01/W is in its sequencer or Disk mode, the editor now sends nothing and asks you to press GLOBAL on the synth first.
v1.49.3 — GET Never Just Hangs
- Fixed: GET All Data / Sequence Data could wait for minutes for nothing — e.g. with the 01/W still in Disk mode, where it may not answer. The editor now puts the 01/W in GLOBAL mode first.
- New: the receive bar has CANCEL. A browser only sees a dump once it has completely arrived, so the bar is an estimate; past it, the bar says "still waiting" and tells you to look at the 01/W's display — if it doesn't say it's sending, press CANCEL.
v1.49.2 — Drum Kits on Disks
- Changed: LOAD WHOLE DISK now says why Global settings and drum kits stay with the 01/W: the kits on a disk are the same as the synth's in every field except Tune, which the disk stores as a playback pitch the 01/W works out from its own sample data — only the 01/W can convert it back. Load them on the 01/W (Disk › Load All Data, or Load 1 Drum Kit), then GET them here.
v1.49.1 — GET All Data Waits Long Enough
- Fixed: with songs in the 01/W's sequencer, a full backup is much bigger (up to ~330 KB, about two minutes at MIDI speed). GET could give up after 60 s and say "no reply" while the data was still arriving, and the progress bar sat at 97%. Now it waits up to 3 minutes (Sequence Data 2½), the bar's estimate uses the size of your last dump, and past it the bar says "still receiving".
v1.49.0 — Load Whole Disk, Including Sequences
- New: LOAD WHOLE DISK… and SEND DISK TO 01/W… open one choice of what to take: programs, combinations, and a sequence file (choose which, e.g. FILE-A or FILE-B — remembered for that disk). Programs and combinations go into the Librarian, the sequence into Global › Backup & Restore; SEND then opens "Send to the 01/W?" with them ticked.
- Global settings and drum kits are on the disk too, in a disk layout of their own — shown, but switched off until that layout is confirmed against a dump from the 01/W.
v1.48.2 — Disk Songs Play Properly
- Fixed: songs sent from a disk's sequence file played everything at once in the first bar. On disk, a sequence file has 10 zero bytes between its tables and the note data (to line the data up); the 01/W drops them when it loads from disk, the editor didn't — so every track pointed 10 bytes off. Now dropped: Rock Show from the Demo disk matches, track for track, the copy the 01/W made when loading the disk itself.
v1.48.1 — The Sequencer Plays Undisturbed
- Fixed: songs on the 01/W stopped after a second. In the 01/W's sequencer the editor kept reading data back (it didn't know that mode), which interrupted playback. Now nothing is read back while the 01/W is in its sequencer (or any mode above GLOBAL), and read-backs also pause whenever MIDI Clock / Start / Continue arrive from the synth — i.e. while it's playing a song.
- Confirmed: a disk sequence sent to the 01/W and read back again is byte-for-byte the same as the disk file.
v1.48.0 — Disk Sequences Can Be Sent Again
- Fixed: the "Error Exclusive Dump" when sending a disk sequence. A Sequence dump carries the size of its song data (in 16-byte blocks) in the two bytes after "48 00"; the editor sent 00 00, so the 01/W was told to expect no song data. Confirmed on two dumps from the 01/W (empty, and one song): the editor now builds them byte-for-byte as the 01/W does. Sending disk sequences is switched back on.
- Each sequence file shows how much song data it holds. A large file may need more sequencer memory than your 01/W has.
v1.47.1 — Disk Sequences: Sending Paused
- Changed: sending a sequence read from a disk file is switched off for now — it gave "Error Exclusive Dump" on the 01/W. The two bytes after "48 00" in a Sequence dump are probably the size of the song data, and so far they've only been seen as 00 00 (an empty sequencer). Viewing, TO BACKUP & RESTORE and SAVE .SYX still work; sequences received from the 01/W can still be sent.
v1.47.0 — Sequence Files on Disks
- New: disk images (.hfe / .img) with sequence files (e.g. FILE-A.SEQ on the 01/W Demo disk) show them: the disk view's SEQUENCE view lists each file with its 10 song names — TO BACKUP & RESTORE, SEND TO 01/W…, SAVE .SYX. Read byte-for-byte as the 01/W's own Sequence dump. Disks with only sequences open too.
v1.46.0 — Sequence Data, and Real Full Backups
- Fixed: full backups (All Data) from the 01/W weren't read right — the 01/W starts that data two bytes later than the editor expected, so its programs and combinations weren't found (TO LIBRARIAN and opening a full backup in the Librarian would fail). Checked on a real backup: 200 programs, 200 combinations, Global + drum kits, and the sequencer memory.
- New: the sequence data inside a full backup goes into the Sequence Data row as well (GET ALL DATA or a file), so it can be sent or saved on its own — byte-for-byte the same as the 01/W's own Sequence dump. Rows and messages show the songs ("10 songs", and their names once you've named them).
- New: SAVE… in the Librarian has Sequence data. OPEN… and drag & drop already take sequence .syx files (into Global › Backup & Restore, then "Send to the 01/W?").
v1.45.0 — GET ALL DATA Shows What It Got
- Fixed: GET in Global › Backup & Restore (All Data especially) could finish while the editor was reading the Global settings back in the background — the dump was then not kept, and the row still said "not received yet". A dump you ask for is now always kept, and background read-backs pause while it arrives.
- New: each row says what it holds and where it came from — e.g. "received 11:54 · 200 programs · 200 combinations · Global, drum kits, sequence · 72 KB", or the file it was opened from — with a message when it arrives. All Data has TO LIBRARIAN: its programs and combinations into Bank A / B.
- Changed: the red patch name display is bigger.
v1.44.0 — Room for Big Preset Libraries
- Fixed: importing a large harvest (e.g. ~29,000 presets, ~10 MB) showed "Couldn't save to browser storage" — the presets were only in memory and would be lost on reload. Presets, categories and naming rules are now kept in the browser's IndexedDB (no practical size limit, still only on this computer); your existing data moves over by itself.
v1.43.4 — Disk View Matches the Librarian
- Changed: in the disk view (.hfe / .img), the selected program or combination is outlined like in the Librarian instead of the old gradient fill; names keep their normal colours, and category tags show in the corner.
v1.43.3 — Selected Ghost Slot Outlined Again
- Fixed: the sound you've selected in a ghost bank (programs and combinations) had lost its outline since v1.41.1 — it's outlined like the selected slot in Bank A / B again.
v1.43.2 — Pitch Page Preset
- New: a whole-page preset on the Pitch tab (in its top bar): both oscillators' pitch MG and the joystick / aftertouch bend ranges, in one preset.
v1.43.1 — Page Presets for Oscillators and Modulation
- New: two whole-page presets, in the bar at the top of the tab. Program: the oscillator setup (Single / Double / Drums, assign, hold, interval, detune, delay) and both oscillators' multisound, bank, octave, level and pan. Modulation: cutoff MG, aftertouch and joystick together.
- The envelope presets (Pitch, Filter, Amp, Waveshape EG) and effect presets are as before. (The per-card section presets of v1.43.0 are withdrawn.)
v1.42.0 — Undo and Redo
- New: ↶ ↷ next to INIT, and ⌘Z / ⇧⌘Z (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y) — undo and redo for the program or combination you're editing: knobs and switches, COPY / SWAP FX and OSC, presets, INIT, and loading another sound (Librarian, ghost banks, files). A knob turn or a copy is one step; the restored sound is sent to the 01/W; up to 100 steps. Inside a text box, ⌘Z still undoes your typing.
- Not recorded: edits made on the 01/W's own panel, and Librarian bank operations (sync, imports, writes to the synth's slots).
v1.41.5 — Every Pop-up Has a Way Out
- Changed: every pop-up (category, ghost bank picker, OPEN…, SAVE…, presets, SEND TO 01/W…, COPY FX…) now has a ✕ in its corner and a CANCEL button. Esc and a click outside still close them too. The ⚙ MIDI settings panel has a ✕ as well.
v1.41.4 — Combi Writes Are Verified
- New: writing a combination now gets the same check as a program: after the 01/W confirms, the editor selects the slot and reads it back. If the synth kept the previous combination (e.g. memory protect on), you're told "The 01/W did NOT store it" and the Librarian marks it as not yet on the synth — before, a combi write was trusted on the synth's OK alone.
v1.41.3 — Combi Effect Knobs as Quick as Program Ones
- Fixed: in Combi mode, effect knobs (e.g. Out 3 / Out 4) sent every step on its own and read the whole combination back after every pause — slower than in Program mode, and the read-backs made the 01/W's display flash. They now stream like program knobs (only the latest value, at the stream rate), and the check that combi effect messages work runs once per session; after the first success there are no read-backs. Effect type changes still read back, to pick up the new type's settings.
v1.41.2 — INIT PROG and INIT COMBI Alike
- Changed: INIT PROG and INIT COMBI now open the same centred dialog — what happens, the same warning about unsaved edits, CANCEL and INIT. Esc or a click outside cancels; Enter confirms. INIT COMBI's dialog also has the searchable list for the program Timbre 1 plays (double-click one to go).
v1.41.1 — 4 Slots per Row Again
- Changed: the Librarian and ghost banks show 4 slots per row again. The hover buttons take no room until shown, so names use the full slot width; on hover the name makes room (a long name ends with "…" instead of running under the buttons). Category tags stop at about half the slot (full name on hover).
v1.41.0 — Choosing an Effect Turns It On
- New: choosing an effect type or an effects preset (programs and combinations) also switches that effect on — e.g. on an init patch, picking Hall now gives you Hall, not Hall switched off. Choosing OFF leaves the switch alone.
- With the 01/W connected, the switch is sent only after the synth has confirmed the new type, so it can't undo the type change; the display stays on the effects page.
v1.40.5 — Out 3 / Out 4 Knobs Keep Up
- Fixed: turning Out 3 / Out 4 in the editor sent whole programs repeatedly (the 01/W took ~10 s to catch up) — a read-back check could run before the synth had finished the queued changes, decide they hadn't worked and switch to whole-program sends. The addresses are confirmed on the hardware, so the check is gone: a full turn now sends about 17 small messages, like any other knob.
v1.40.4 — Out 3 / Out 4 Mapped from the Hardware
- Fixed (important): since v1.40.3, in Single mode every parameter change was sent as a whole program (the 01/W's display jumped to page 0) — a name clash between two functions. Only OSC 2 settings go with the whole program in Single / Drums mode now, as intended.
- Fixed: Out 3 / Out 4 used the wrong addresses (one of them changed a routing switch). From the 01/W's own messages: Out 3 is 8.5.2 and Out 4 is 8.5.5, sent as −1 (Off) … 100 (R) like the synth's slider; the knob now runs in the synth's order (Off, L, 99:01 … 01:99, R) and moves the same way as the slider.
- Changed: Out 3 / Out 4 changes are checked once the knob stops; if the synth didn't take one, the whole program is sent — without re-showing Placement (no more "Serial" flashing).
v1.40.3 — OSC 2 in Single Mode
- Fixed (important): in Single (or Drums) mode, changing an OSC 2 setting in the editor changed OSC 1 on the 01/W — the synth has no OSC 2 pages in those modes, so the parameter message landed on OSC 1. OSC 2 settings are now sent with the whole program until the program is in Double mode (they're stored, ready for when you switch).
v1.40.2 — Out 3 / Out 4 Confirmed
- Fixed: turning Out 3 / Out 4 sent a flood of whole programs and made "Serial" flash on the 01/W — the check that verified each change compared against a knob that was still moving, wrongly fell back to whole-program sends, and re-showed the effects page each time. The addresses (8.5.1 / 8.5.2) are now confirmed on the hardware, so they're sent like every other knob, with no checks or fallbacks.
- Fixed: the Out 3 / Out 4 ratio labels were reversed (55:45 in the editor showed as 45:55 on the synth).
v1.40.1 — Out 3 / Out 4 Stay on the Effects Page
- Fixed: changing Out 3 / Out 4 sent the whole program, which put the 01/W's display on page 0 (the oscillator page — which showed "Drums" on a drum program, looking as if the oscillators had changed; they hadn't). They're now sent as parameter messages next to Placement (8.5.1 / 8.5.2) so the synth stays on its effects page, and each change is checked by reading back; if your 01/W doesn't take them, the whole program is sent and the display is put back on the effects page.
- Changed: any effects change that has to be sent as a whole program now returns the 01/W's display to the effects page (P8) afterwards.
v1.40.0 — Combi Effects Show Page 8, Out 3 / Out 4
- Fixed: changing a combination's effects sent the whole combination, which put the 01/W's display on page 0. Effect type and settings are now sent as parameter messages (the synth shows its effects page, P8) and checked by reading back 1.5 s later — an effect change takes the 01/W a moment. If your 01/W doesn't take them, the editor sends the whole combination instead (then returns the display to P8) and keeps doing so.
- New: Out 3 / Out 4 show the 01/W's values — Off, L, 99:01 … 01:99, R — for sending the effects to outputs 3 and 4.
v1.39.4 — Controller Thru, Clearer Selection
- Changed: Controller Thru is back in the header (for 01R/W rack owners playing from another keyboard); the header still fits on one row.
- Changed: the selected Librarian / ghost slot is shown with a cyan outline instead of a gradient fill, so its name and category stay easy to read.
- Fixed: in ghost banks, the slot buttons overlapped the category tag — they now sit below it.
v1.39.3 — Global Channel Changes
- Fixed: after changing the 01/W's Global MIDI channel, the editor got "No reply" until reloaded. It now notices the synth has stopped answering, re-detects the channel and retries — for GET and while following.
- Fixed: Global page tabs use the 01/W's numbering: P3 Scale, P4 Pedals & Curves.
- Note: the Global MIDI channel lives in the header of every SysEx message (not in the Global data), and Local on/off isn't sent or received by SysEx — both are shown / set on the synth.
v1.39.2 — Global Page Numbers
- Fixed: the Global tabs now use the 01/W's page numbers — P4 Scale, P5 Pedals & Curves.
- Note: the 01/W only reports page changes for its drum-kit pages (1 and 2); for the other pages the editor switches tab when you change a setting there.
- Changed: on a drum-kit page, the kits are read back at most every 2 s (was 1 s) — less traffic.
v1.39.1 — No More Flashing on Global
- Fixed: on the Global tab, every background read-back of the Global settings redrew the whole screen (the flashing navigation) — even though nothing had changed. Read-backs are now silent; only real changes on the synth update the screen.
- Changed: clicking tabs in the editor no longer triggers bursts of fast read-backs (or drum-kit dumps); fast following starts only when something happens on the 01/W itself — a page or parameter change, or EDIT pressed on the synth.
v1.39.0 — Global Pages, Backups via the Librarian
- Changed: Drums is no longer a separate tab — on the 01/W the drum kits are Global pages. Global now has a tab per page: P0 Tuning & Keyboard, P1 / P2 Drum Kit (A1 / A2, or B1 / B2 with a Bank B program), P3 Scale, P4 Pedals & Curves, and Backup & Restore. Changing pages on the synth selects the matching tab.
- Fixed: opening or dropping a full backup saved as separate dumps jumped to the Global tab with no next step. Any backup now stays where you are: programs and combinations go into the Librarian, the rest into Backup & Restore, and "Send to the 01/W?" lists everything in the file (Programs, Combinations, Global settings, Drum kits, Sequence data).
- New: SAVE… in the Librarian: "A full backup (All Data from the 01/W)".
v1.38.4 — No More Delayed Notes
- Fixed: on the Drums / Global tabs, the editor read all four drum kits back every ~2.6 s (a ~2 KB dump the 01/W takes ~0.6 s to send), which held up notes you played. Drum kits are no longer read on a timer — only for a few seconds after you use the 01/W's drum pages.
- New: while you're playing the 01/W (notes arriving from it), all read-backs pause until you've stopped for 3 s — in every mode.
- Changed: pressing a page or moving the cursor on the synth moves the editor straight to the matching tab (read-back changes are still rate-limited, so tabs can't ping-pong).
v1.38.3 — Drums / Global Settle Down
- Fixed: opening Drums for the first time after a sync jumped to Global — the first read-back of the Global settings (and drum kits) was mistaken for a change made on the synth. It's now just the starting point.
- Fixed: Drums and Global could pull each other back and forth (the tab flashing). Following never moves you off a tab you've just clicked, switches tabs at most once every 1.5 s, and ignores echoes of the editor's own messages (MIDI Thru loops).
- Changed: in Global mode, the tab you're on is read back at the normal rate and the other only every 2 s — much less traffic (the drum-kit dump is ~2 KB).
v1.38.2 — Diagnostic Fixes
- Fixed: a drum-kit transfer that had to wait (e.g. for a sync) left the 01/W in Global mode — it's now put back in Program mode unless you're on the Drums or Global tab.
- Fixed: opening several banks at once could stack "Send to the 01/W?" dialogs — only the latest shows; Esc closes it.
- Fixed: the MIDI port menus gained an extra hover listener every time ports changed.
- Fixed: a shared combination function relied on an editor-only helper without checking it exists (would only matter in the harvester).
v1.38.1 — Open, Then "Send to the 01/W?"
- Changed: opening a whole bank, a programs + combinations file or an All Data backup now puts the programs and combinations into their Librarians (a backup no longer jumps to the Global tab) and asks "Send to the 01/W?" — tick Programs and / or Combinations (and, for a backup, everything else), or NOT NOW.
- Fixed: a file holding both programs and combinations loaded only one of them — both now load.
- Changed: SEND ALL opens the same choice, pre-ticked for whatever has changes not yet on the 01/W, so programs and combinations can be sent together.
v1.38.0 — Calmer MIDI, ⚙ Settings, One-Row Header
- Fixed: switching tabs could start extra read-back loops (2 on Combi, 3 on Global…), flooding the 01/W with requests and making menus flicker and pages jump. Only one loop ever runs now.
- Changed: following the synth reads back quickly only for a few seconds after something changes, then every 2 s; it pauses while the window is in the background.
- New: ⚙ next to DETECT — Live, send speed, "Follow the synth's panel" (turn off for no read-backs at all) and Controller Thru, moved out of the header so it always fits on one row. A LIVE OFF badge shows whenever Live is off.
v1.37.1 — OPEN… Matches SAVE…
- Changed: OPEN… in the Librarian now offers the same kinds of choice as SAVE…: a program / combination into the editor, into Librarian slots (starting at the selected slot), a whole bank, programs + combinations, or a disk image.
- Changed: the per-slot import / export buttons are gone (OPEN… › Into Librarian slots and SAVE… › A range of slots do the same) — the remaining five fit in one row, so the slots are shorter.
- Changed: opening combinations into the Librarian starts at the selected combination (the confirmation shows where they'll go).
v1.37.0 — Global Mode Following, Program FX → Combi, Tidier Layout
- New: COPY FX FROM A PROGRAM… on the Combi tab — copy FX 1, FX 2, or both with their placement from any program (the combi's own programs are listed first) into the combination.
- Fixed: drum kits and the other Global pages are all GLOBAL mode on the 01/W. With the Drums or Global tab open, the editor now follows by what changes: a drum-kit edit shows Drums, a change on any other Global page (P0, scale, pedals…) shows Global.
- Fixed: menus, buttons and switches now sit exactly on the knobs' centre line (each setting has the same label and readout spacing as a knob).
- Fixed: the category tag is back in each slot's top-right corner, with the hover buttons below it.
- Fixed: the header fits on one row again at common window widths (1280 px and up); port menus show the full name when opened or on hover.
v1.36.1 — Quieter Detection, Sync Check, Roomier Librarian
- Fixed: "01/W detected" kept popping up — another program or the MIDI interface was asking the 01/W who it is every few seconds, and the editor announced every reply. It now only reacts to its own DETECT / startup / sync check; other replies are ignored quietly (noted once in the MIDI log).
- Fixed: SYNC HW with the wrong MIDI ports went through the motions anyway. It now checks that the 01/W answers first, and if not, says so and imports nothing.
- Changed: the Librarian shows 3 wider columns. Each slot's left part (number, name, category) is always the place to click to select it; the actions sit on the right in two rows on hover, never over the name or the category tag. Ghost bank slots work the same way.
v1.36.0 — Layout, Pedals, Files, Graphs
- Fixed: damper polarity was inverted; the assignable pedals are now menus with their functions (Off, Program Up … Data Entry); the VERIFY labels are gone from Pedals & Curves and Scale.
- New: pressing a Global page on the 01/W that isn't a drum kit (scale, pedals…) shows the Global tab, and changes made there are followed.
- Changed: files have two homes — the Librarian's OPEN… / SAVE… for programs and combinations (single sounds, ranges, banks, disks), and Global › Backup & Restore for Global settings, drum kits, sequences and All Data, with the editor's own data (presets, categories, naming rules, ghost banks) in its own Editor data box. The header's OPEN / SAVE buttons are gone (drag & drop still works anywhere).
- Fixed: the header no longer cuts off the zoom buttons — HELP is a compact ? button, and on narrower windows the controls wrap onto a second line.
- Fixed: envelope graphs draw a time of 0 as a straight vertical line, like the 01/W's display — no more misleading slopes.
- Changed: settings (buttons, menus, switches) line up with the centre of the knobs everywhere; one-row cards like Oscillator Setup are split into a settings pane and a knobs pane; A–B PAN sits at the start of the output row, level with the knobs; Pitch EG controls are in the 01/W's order (OSC 1 EG Int, OSC 2 EG Int, Level Vel, Time Vel).
- Fixed: the two pitch-bend knobs are named Joystick Bend and Aftertouch Bend (in that order) and sit in a compact strip below the Pitch MG cards.
v1.35.0 — Combis from Picked Programs, Centred Dialogs, Help
- New: SELECT PROGRAMS FOR A COMBI in the Librarian — tick up to 8 programs from any bank or ghost bank (clicking a slot still plays it), then CREATE COMBI…: Layer, Split or Velocity, a name, and optionally a ghost combi bank to keep it in. Programs from a ghost bank are written into 01/W slots you choose (with a clear warning of what's overwritten), or can be sent later.
- Changed: confirmation messages appear in the centre of the screen (Enter = OK, Esc = Cancel) instead of the browser's box at the top.
- New: HELP in the header — a searchable guide to setting up and using the editor. The same guide is in the download (docs/GEO-01W_Guide.md).
v1.34.1 — Naming Ghost Banks
- Changed: + asks for a name when you create a ghost bank (also from → GHOST › New ghost bank…). Rename any time with RENAME in the bank's header, or double-click it in the sidebar.
v1.34.0 — Ghost Banks
- New: ghost banks — virtual banks of programs or combinations kept in the editor, so you can create and curate sounds without overwriting the 01/W's slots. Make as many as you like (+ under Bank A / B in the Librarian), 100 slots each, renamable.
- Copy sounds in by dragging a Bank A / B slot onto a ghost bank, or with → GHOST on a slot. Store the editor's sound in an empty ghost slot. Drag to rearrange.
- Click a ghost sound to hear and edit it (edit buffer only — nothing stored). WRITE then offers "save back to the ghost slot" or "write to a 01/W slot…".
- Save a ghost bank as .syx or load files into it; SEND TO 01/W… puts a whole ghost bank onto Bank A or B. Ghost banks are kept in this browser and included in the categories & presets .json backup (and in MANAGE…).
- Changed: the send progress bar now finishes as soon as the 01/W confirms it has the data.
v1.33.3 — Choose What to Send from a Disk
- Changed: SEND DISK TO 01/W… now asks what to send: programs only, combinations only, or both — so you can load a disk's programs without replacing your combinations (or the other way round).
v1.33.2 — Pitch EG on the Program Tab (per the manual)
- Changed: following the 01/W manual, the Pitch EG and its controls are on the Program tab (page 0, with the oscillators); the Pitch tab holds the pitch-bend ranges and Pitch MG (page 6). Every tab now matches its 01/W page with no exceptions.
v1.33.1 — Pitch EG back on the Pitch Tab
- Fixed: the Pitch EG and its controls are back on the Pitch tab, as on the 01/W; Program is just the oscillators. Opening Pitch points the 01/W at its pitch page, and the synth's cursor on the Pitch EG lands on Pitch.
v1.33.0 — Drum Kit Fix, Combi FX, Disk Send, Progress
- Fixed (important): in Bank B, pressing or editing B1 / B2 changed Global settings (scale type, user scale, damper polarity). The drum message's page byte is 0 / 1 for the current bank's two kits; 2 and up are other Global pages, which the editor was writing to. It now only ever uses 0 / 1, and Global-page edits from the synth are no longer mistaken for drum edits. Check your Global settings if you used B1 / B2 in an earlier version.
- Fixed: changing a combination's effects snapped back — they're now sent as the whole combination, and stay.
- Fixed: syncing started in Global mode (e.g. after the Drums tab) fell back to reading combinations one by one — slower, and it left the 01/W on B99. The 01/W is put in Program mode first, and afterwards back on the sound the editor shows.
- New: SEND DISK TO 01/W in the Disk view writes a whole disk (200 programs + 200 combinations) to the synth in one go.
- New: a progress bar with percentage and time left for long transfers (sync, All Data, bank and disk sends…). Estimated from the size at MIDI speed; it completes when the data actually arrives.
- Changed: the Librarian's PROGRAMS / COMBIS and Bank A / B buttons switch the 01/W too (bank buttons keep the number, A12 → B12, like the synth's own). EG switch cards list Velocity before KBD, as on the 01/W.
v1.32.1 — Every Setting on Its 01/W Page
- Fixed: six settings were on a different tab from their 01/W page. The joystick and aftertouch pitch-bend ranges (P6) moved from Modulation to a Pitch Bend Range card on the Pitch tab; the VDF EG time switches (P2 / P3) moved from Amp to new Filter EG Switches cards on the Filter tab. The VDA switches stay on Amp (P4 / P5). Every parameter's tab now matches its page, so following the synth's cursor always lands on the right tab.
v1.32.0 — Following the Synth's Selections, Drum Kit Banks
- New: programs and combinations picked on the 01/W are followed — the editor selects that slot, reads the sound back from the synth, shows it, and the Librarian switches to its bank with the slot highlighted. Works while editing too (the Librarian no longer keeps the old slot).
- New: PROG / COMBI pressed on the 01/W switches the editor's view (Librarian PROGRAMS ↔ COMBIS, program tabs ↔ Combi tab). The editor's own messages are ignored if a MIDI Thru loop echoes them back.
- Fixed: drum kits follow the 01/W's banks — A1/A2 are only available with a Bank A program selected, B1/B2 with Bank B. The kit buttons show which pair is on the synth now; opening Drums starts on that bank's first kit; kits of the other bank can still be edited, but their changes are sent as a drum kit dump instead of live edits and page jumps (which confused the synth). Live editing is checked per bank.
v1.31.2 — Tabs Match the 01/W's Pages
- Fixed: selecting page 0 on the 01/W sometimes jumped the editor to the Pitch tab — the pitch envelope lives on the 01/W's page 0, but it was on the editor's Pitch tab. The Pitch EG (and its controls) now sit on the Program tab with the oscillators, exactly like P0; the Pitch tab is the Pitch MG (P6).
- Changed: opening the Pitch tab now points the 01/W at P6. Every page the synth's cursor lands on (P0–P8, including settings like oscillator mode and EG switches) goes to the matching tab.
v1.31.1 — EG Switch Polarity, Linked Envelope Handles
- Fixed: OSC 1/2 EG Switch & Polarity showed and sent + and − the wrong way round (+ in the editor was − on the 01/W). They now match the synth, both in what's displayed and what's sent.
- Fixed: with LINK OSC 1 + 2 on, dragging an envelope handle now brings both of that handle's settings on the other oscillator into line — including the one that didn't move (e.g. the level on a sideways drag), which previously stayed different.
v1.31.0 — Managing Presets
- New: Global › Backup › Categories & Presets › MANAGE… shows what's stored (starter library, presets imported from the harvester, your own saved presets, category tags, naming rules) and clears any one group — with a confirmation, and an export button so you can keep a copy.
- New: importing a starter library offers to replace the previous version (your own presets are kept); choosing Cancel just adds any new templates.
v1.30.5 — Timbre Pan (hardware-confirmed)
- Fixed: timbre pan labels now match the 01/W's display: A, 9:1 … 5:5 … 1:9, B, C, C+D, D, ALL, then PRG last (v1.30.2 wrongly moved PRG first). The knob covers A … B with 5:5 at its centre; C, C+D, D, ALL and PRG are buttons.
- Fixed: INIT COMBI starts Timbre 1 at a true 5:5.
v1.30.4 — Combi Names in the Display
- Fixed: the red display showed the program name even in the Librarian's COMBIS view. It now shows the combination whenever you're working on combis — the Combi tab, the Librarian's COMBIS view, or a disk's combinations — and the program everywhere else. INIT and WRITE follow the same rule.
v1.30.3 — INIT COMBI in the Librarian
- Changed: the header's INIT button follows what you're working on, like WRITE: INIT COMBI on the Combi tab and in the Librarian's COMBIS view, INIT PROG everywhere else.
- Removed: the extra INIT button in the Combi tab's header card (next to SAVE .SYX) — use INIT COMBI in the top bar.
v1.30.2 — Timbre Pan
- Fixed: timbre pan labels were one step off (e.g. the editor's 4:6 was really 5:5). The list now matches Korg's combination order: PRG (the program's own pan) first, then A, 9:1 … 1:9, B, C, C+D, D, ALL.
- Changed: timbre pan uses the same control as programs — the knob covers A … B with 5:5 exactly at its centre, and PRG / C / C+D / D / ALL are buttons.
- Changed: INIT COMBI starts Timbre 1 centred (5:5) instead of PRG.
v1.30.1 — INIT COMBI
- New: INIT COMBI in the top bar on the Combi tab (where INIT PROG is for programs). Choose the program Timbre 1 plays — it defaults to the program you're editing, with a searchable list — and you get "Init Combi": T1 on that program over the whole keyboard and velocity range, the other timbres off, sent to the 01/W's combi edit buffer.
v1.30.0 — Drum Kits & Full Backup in SAVE / OPEN
- New: SAVE now also offers Drum kits (all four) and Full backup (All Data — the 01/W's whole memory). If they haven't been read yet, the editor reads them from the 01/W first.
- New: OPEN and drag & drop understand backup files: drum kits open on the Drums tab; global, sequence and All Data files go into Global › Backup, ready to SEND TO 01/W.
- Changed: Global › Backup's "OPEN BACKUP .SYX" is now "OPEN BACKUP FILE…", with a note on what it does (restore a saved backup so you can send it back).
v1.29.1 — Audition from the Librarian
- Fixed: selecting a Librarian slot now plays the Librarian's copy (program change + that program, in normal Program mode), so you hear exactly what's shown even when it isn't on the 01/W yet — e.g. after dropping a disk into the Librarian. Nothing is stored on the synth.
- Fixed: auditioning (Librarian or Disk) no longer puts the 01/W into Edit mode or jumps the editor to the Program tab — you stay on the Librarian page.
- Changed: right after a patch is selected or auditioned, the synth-follower briefly pauses, so the editor's own send can't be mistaken for a panel edit. Combinations behave the same way.
v1.29.0 — OPEN / SAVE Everything
- Changed: OPEN opens any 01/W file and puts it in the right place — a program into the editor, a combination into the Combi editor, a bank into the Librarian's import, a disk image into the Disk view (same as drag and drop).
- Changed: SAVE offers this program (or this combination on the Combi tab), all programs, all combinations, or programs + combinations in one file — standard .syx.
- Fixed: oscillator and timbre LINK switches no longer carry over to the next program or combination; they reset when you select a different one.
- Changed: Pitch now comes after Amp: Program · Waveshape · Filter · Amp · Pitch · Modulation · Effects.
v1.28.0 — 32', Page Order, Preset Browsing, Drag & Drop
- Fixed: oscillator Octave now includes 32' (it showed "RAW -2").
- Changed: tabs follow the 01/W's edit pages: Program, Pitch, Waveshape, Filter, Amp, Modulation, Effects.
- Changed: effect presets are grouped by effect type (in the 01/W's type order, the current type first). Clicking a preset loads it and keeps the list open, and ↑ / ↓ step through and load the next one — handy for auditioning, e.g. all your Halls. Envelope presets browse the same way (by category).
- New: drag and drop — drop a program or combination bank (.syx / .1pl) onto the editor to import it (same as IMPORT BANK), or a disk image (.hfe / .img) to open it in the Disk view.
v1.27.0 — Smarter Categories
- New: a Guitar category (Plucked is now harp, koto, sitar, banjo and the like).
- Changed: AUTO-TAG scores every category from the name and the oscillator multisounds instead of taking the first keyword match — so "Steel String", "Nylon Str" and "12 String" are Guitar (guitar words cancel "string"), "Harpsicord" is Piano/Keys, and "Bassoon" is Woodwind.
- New: naming rules — tick "Remember for names containing …" in any category menu (e.g. "string pad" → Pad). Your rules are checked first, can be viewed and deleted under Global › Backup › NAMING RULES, and are included in the categories & presets .json.
v1.26.0 — Link, Copy & Swap
- New: LINK OSC 1 + 2 on the Program, Pitch, Filter, Amp and Waveshape tabs — while linked, a change to either oscillator in that section (knobs, envelope handles, EG switches, menus) is made to the other too, live on the 01/W.
- New: COPY OSC 1 → 2, COPY OSC 2 → 1 and SWAP 1 ↔ 2 per section; on the Program tab they act on the whole oscillator, like the 01/W's page 9.
- New: COPY FX 1 → 2, COPY FX 2 → 1 and SWAP on the Effects tab and for combi effects (Symphonic Ensemble stays in FX 1 with FX 2 off).
- New: combi timbres have COPY / PASTE (e.g. T1 → T2) and a LINK switch — linked timbres mirror each other's edits, live.
v1.25.0 — Reliable, Verified Writes
- Fixed: saving from the editor could leave the 01/W's slot unchanged (re-selecting the patch brought back the previous save). Writes were being sent while the 01/W was in Program Edit; they're now done from normal Program / Combi mode, the sequence confirmed on the hardware.
- New: every program write is verified — after the 01/W confirms it, the editor selects the slot, reads it back and compares it byte-for-byte. You get "Written and verified", or a clear warning that the 01/W kept the previous program (with the differing bytes in the MIDI log). Drag-swaps and pastes are verified too.
- Fixed: the synth-following read-backs now always match the 01/W's current mode (no program read-backs while it's in Combi mode).
v1.24.2 — Global / Drums Pages, Fixed Display
- New: the Global tab puts the 01/W into Global mode. The Drums tab (and its A1 / A2 / B1 / B2 buttons) also shows the matching drum kit page on the 01/W, by re-sending Drum 1's sound unchanged.
- Fixed: the patch display in the header has a fixed width, so long text (e.g. a combi being edited) no longer pushes the tabs into a sideways scroll. Its top line is shorter ("COMBI · BUFFER · EDITED"); anything still too long ends in "…", and hovering shows it in full.
v1.24.1 — Show the Matching Page on the 01/W
- New: opening a section also nudges the 01/W's display to the matching edit page (Filter → VDF, Pitch → Pitch EG, Effects → effects…). The editor re-sends one parameter from that page with its current value, so the sound doesn't change.
v1.24.0 — Smoother Two-Way Editing
- New: opening a program section (Program, Pitch, Filter, Amp, Waveshape, Modulation, Effects) puts the 01/W into Program Edit; the Combi tab puts it into Combi Edit; Drums into Global.
- Changed: the editor follows the synth the whole time it's in an Edit mode (not just after cursor moves), so leaving and re-entering Edit can't stop it. Knobs move as soon as a change is read (about ¼ s), and read-backs no longer pop up "Received…" or fill the log.
- Fixed: if the 01/W rejects a change because it isn't in Edit mode, the editor switches it to Edit and resends the change — one log line instead of a flood of "Data load ERROR".
- Changed: the 01/W's routine "Data load completed" confirmation for each parameter change is no longer logged (only transfers you asked for, and errors).
- Fixed: the startup check retries once if the 01/W doesn't answer straight away. Following pauses while LIVE is off, so the synth's values never overwrite edits you haven't sent.
v1.23.0 — Following the Synth's Data Dial
- Fixed: the 01/W doesn't transmit value changes as you turn its data dial — it sends one message when the cursor lands on a parameter, with the value at that moment. So the editor only saw the starting value (e.g. Cutoff 47, not the 51 you dialled).
- Now: panel activity starts a watch: the editor reads the 01/W's edit buffer back about three times a second, applies any change, jumps to its tab and lights up the knob. The watch ends ~12 s after the last change on the synth. Works for programs, combis and drum kits. It pauses while you're using the editor, so it never undoes your own edits, and the read-backs aren't logged — changes it picks up get one "On the 01/W: …" line each.
v1.22.4 — See What You Edit on the Synth
- New: when you edit a parameter on the 01/W's panel, the editor jumps to the tab it lives on (Filter for Cutoff, Effects, Combi, Drums…) and briefly lights up that knob. Previously the value was followed but could be hidden on another tab (e.g. while the Librarian was showing). It won't switch tabs while you're dragging a control in the editor.
v1.22.3 — Panel-Edit Diagnostics
- New: every parameter message the 01/W sends when you edit on its panel gets a line in the MIDI log (click the status light) saying what the editor did with it — followed, read back, or ignored and why.
- Changed: after a sync the editor asks the 01/W which mode it's in, so its record of Program / Combi / Edit mode can't be left out of date.
v1.22.2 — Code Check
- Fixed: panel-edit following now ignores parameter messages while the 01/W is in GLOBAL (or other) modes, where the same addresses mean something else — they could otherwise have been misread as program edits in the editor.
- Fixed: combi effect knobs now move immediately when the matching parameter is changed on the 01/W's panel.
- Cleaned up: duplicate drum-message checks and an unused leftover reference.
- Checked: static analysis (no errors), every button handler and element confirmed, no duplicate definitions, harvester shared code identical to the editor's, full sweep of all tabs plus feature tests for combis, Symphonic Ensemble, drums, presets, edit/play modes and panel following.
v1.22.1 — Follow the Synth's Panel, Mod Sources, Scroll
- New: edits made on the 01/W's own panel now appear in the editor — turn VDF Cutoff on the synth and the knob moves. Works for program parameters, effect parameters, combi timbres and drum kits; anything that can't be mapped directly (EG stage switches, effect-type changes) triggers a quick read-back so the editor always matches the synth. Nothing is sent back.
- Changed: effect DMod Source is a drop-down with the 01/W's source names (NONE, JS +Y, JS −Y, AFTERTOUCH, PEDAL 1/2, VDA EG and the SL+ variants), in programs and combis.
- Fixed: Pitch MG "Freq AT+JS" is a 0–9 setting shown as F=0 … F=9, as on the 01/W (it was a 0–99 knob).
- Fixed: the Librarian (and the Disk view) no longer jumps back to the top when you select a patch; it only resets when you switch bank or library.
v1.21.0 — Edit / Play Mode Handling
- Fixed: the 01/W only applies parameter changes in its EDIT modes and only changes program/combi in its PLAY modes, but the editor treated Program and Program Edit as the same. Edits did nothing unless you'd pressed EDIT on the synth, and selecting a patch while in Edit changed the editor but not the synth.
- Now: the editor tracks the 01/W's exact mode (including when you press mode buttons on the synth) and switches it as needed — to Program / Combi to select a patch, and to Program Edit / Combi Edit when you change a parameter. After a knob turn the synth stays in Edit on that patch, so further tweaks are immediate.
v1.20.1 — Layout Clean-up
- Changed: settings rows (menus, buttons, switches) are spread evenly across their cards instead of bunched on the left — e.g. OSC 1/2 Source, effect Type / FX On / DMod, Cutoff MG, Scale.
- Changed: sparse cards are now one compact row instead of full-width panes with a couple of knobs: Oscillator Setup, Effect Setup & Routing (programs and combis), Cutoff MG (now full width, with Aftertouch and Joystick side by side below), and Global's Tuning & Keyboard / Pedals & Curves.
- Fixed: removed an out-of-date VERIFY badge on Cutoff MG (its layout was confirmed on the hardware) and updated the Backup panel text now that the dump requests are confirmed.
v1.20.0 — Drum Kit Editor
- New: Drums tab — all four kits (A1, A2, B1, B2), 60 drums each: Sound (by name), Key, Tune, Decay, Level, Pan and Exclusive, with ▶ to play a drum's key on the 01/W. GET / SEND / SAVE .SYX for the kits. Layout mapped on the hardware with GEOVERIFY.
- Live editing: drum edits are sent with the 01/W's own drum message (it switches the 01/W to GLOBAL mode, where the kits live). The first edit is read back to confirm; if the 01/W doesn't take it, edits are sent as a kit dump instead.
- Note: there are no separate Send C / Send D settings — the drum Pan setting doubles as routing (A…B, C, C+D, D, ALL), which is what SoundTower called its sends.
- Changed: tabs are slightly tighter so all eleven fit.
v1.19.0 — Preset Browser Levels
- Changed: the PRESETS menu opens on a list of categories with counts (the current sound's category first); choose one to see its presets, or search across all of them.
- Fixed: pop-up menus (presets, save, categories) were see-through and appeared wherever the button was. They now open centred on a solid panel over a dimmed page; click outside or press Esc to close.
v1.18.0 — Symphonic Ensemble, Confirmed Dumps
- New: Symphonic Ensemble is fully supported — Mod Depth, EQ Low, EQ High and balance, mapped on the hardware and matching the manual.
- Changed: the effect menus follow the confirmed rule: Symphonic Ensemble uses both effect processors, so it only goes in FX 1 and needs FX 2 OFF. Choosing it offers to switch FX 2 off first; while it's active FX 2 is locked OFF, as on the 01/W.
- Changed: GET in Global › Backup now uses the request messages confirmed on the hardware (Global, Drum Kits, Sequence, All Data) — no more fallback attempts.
- New: on startup the editor asks the 01/W which mode it's in, so Program/Combi switching is right from the first edit.
v1.17.0 — Preset Browser
- New: the PRESETS menu has a search box and a category filter (with counts), and opens on the current sound's category — built for large libraries such as those made with GEO-01W HARVEST.
- New companion app: GEO-01W HARVEST reads any number of .hfe / .img / .syx / .1pl files, removes duplicates, suggests categories and extracts envelope and effect presets, then exports one .json for Global › Backup › IMPORT .JSON.
v1.16.0 — Categories & Section Presets
- New: categories for programs and combinations (Piano/Keys, Organ, Strings, Brass, Woodwind, Pad, Lead, Synth, Bass, Bells/Mallets, Plucked, Choir/Vox, Drums/Perc, FX, Other). Colour tags on every Librarian slot, a filter bar with counts, a tag button on each slot, and AUTO-TAG to suggest categories from names and multisounds. Tags follow the sound, not the slot — through drag-swaps, syncs and copies — and the Write dialog has a Category menu.
- New: section presets — PRESETS / SAVE on every envelope (Pitch, Filter, Amp, Waveshape) and effect card, in programs and combis. Envelope presets load into either oscillator; effect presets switch to their effect type if needed, then apply their settings. Everything updates the 01/W live.
- Storage: categories and presets are kept in this browser. Export / import them as one .json file from Global › Backup.
v1.15.1 — Switch Layout
- Fixed: the EG Switch & Polarity groups are now evenly spaced across the card instead of bunched to the left.
v1.15.0 — Effect Layout, Hardware Swaps
- Changed: effect parameters sit in an even, column-aligned grid balanced across rows (8 → 4+4, 7 → 4+3, 9 → 5+4) with fixed-height labels, so knobs always line up. Labels are shorter and units moved into the readout ("Pre Delay" · 60 ms, "EQ Low" · −4 dB); hover a label for its full name.
- Changed: Dynamic Modulation (source / intensity) moved to the top row beside the effect type and on/off switch.
- Changed: drag-and-drop swaps in the Librarian now write both slots to the 01/W straight away when it's connected (programs and combis), then return the 01/W to what you were playing. Pasting or importing into a combi slot also saves it to the 01/W.
- Renamed: the effect setup's two output values are now Out 3 / Out 4 (still marked VERIFY).
v1.14.1 — Effects Without the Synth
- Fixed: choosing an effect type with no 01/W connected left the card showing P1–P8. The card now always redraws with that type's named parameters.
- New: offline, choosing a type loads that effect's factory default settings — the same values the 01/W loads on its panel (from the 47-type hardware sweep).
- Changed: an effect set to OFF shows just its type and on/off switch, not meaningless knobs.
v1.14.0 — Global Settings & Backup
- New: Global tab — Master Tune, Key Transpose, Damper Polarity, Assignable Pedals 1 & 2, Velocity and Aftertouch Curves, Scale Type, Pure-Type Key and the 12-note User Scale, edited and sent to the 01/W as a Global dump. Layout from the documented 01/W Global dump.
- New: Backup panel for Global Settings, Drum Kits, Sequence Data and All Data: GET, SAVE .SYX and SEND TO 01/W. GET tries the usual request messages; any dump started from the 01/W's GLOBAL page 8 is captured automatically. OPEN BACKUP .SYX loads a saved file (including program and combination banks) for sending back.
- Unconfirmed: the request messages for these dumps, Damper Polarity / pedal function labels and scale-type names — a GEOVERIFY request scan will settle the requests.
v1.13.1 — Symphonic Ensemble Rule
- New: the effect type menus follow the 01/W's rule — Symphonic Ensemble can't run alongside the chorus, flanger, phaser, rotary, tremolo/pan and chorus-delay types in the other effect. Blocked types are greyed out with "can't combine with FX 1/2".
- Fixed: when the 01/W refuses a type change ([Can't Select]), the editor now says so and keeps the synth's actual setting, instead of forcing the change with a full program send.
v1.13.0 — Named Effect Parameters
- New: Effect cards show each effect type's real parameters — e.g. Hall: Reverb Time, Pre Delay (ms), E.R. Level, High Damp, EQ Low/High (dB), FX Balance — instead of P1–P8, with the ranges the 01/W allows. 46 of the 47 types are mapped, from a hardware sweep of every type; Symphonic Ensemble keeps P1–P8.
- New: named effect parameters stream live like other knobs, in programs and combis.
- Fixed: delay times up to 500 ms span two bytes and now read and write correctly; Dual Delay and the Delay/… combination effects have two independent balances, which are now separate knobs instead of one mirrored value.
v1.12.0 — Multiple Disks, Combi Export Range
- New: open several disk images at once (multi-select, or + in the Disk view). Each disk is a tab named after its file, with ✕ to close; the left panel shows only the current disk's banks. Opening a disk that's already open just switches to it.
- Changed: disk banks are named after the disk — "Waveshape_1 · Bank A / Bank B" — instead of "Bank file 1 / 2".
- Changed: EXPORT BANK in COMBIS now uses the same range dialog as programs (full A00–B99 = one All Combination dump; any other range = individual combination dumps).
v1.11.0 — GEO-01W
- Renamed: the editor is now GEO-01W.
- Fixed: OSC Level knobs are back in the same pane as Pan, directly to its left.
- Changed: the header's channel label is now "CH:" so it stays on one line, and the LOGS button is gone so the whole header (including zoom +/−) fits. Click the MIDI status light to show or hide the MIDI log.
- New: exports open a Save As dialog so you choose the folder and filename (Chrome / Edge). Other browsers fall back to a normal download.
v1.10.1 — Code Check
- Fixed: A live change still waiting in the send queue could be dropped if the 01/W had to switch between Program and Combi mode at that moment (e.g. turning a knob, then going straight to the Combi tab). Queued changes are now sent before the mode switch.
- Cleaned up: removed code left over from the retired Verify and Inspector tabs and the old combi-only sync, unused state fields, and a stale tooltip.
- Checked: full static analysis (no errors), every button's handler and every referenced element confirmed to exist, and a runtime sweep of all nine tabs exercising 205 knobs, 31 menus, 9 switches and 150 buttons with no errors and byte-exact data afterwards.
v1.10.0 — Envelope Displays Redesigned
- Changed: Pitch, Filter, Amp and Waveshape envelopes now fill the whole display. The graph is split into the same columns as the knobs below it, so each stage sits directly above the knobs that set it (ATTACK over Attack T + Attack L, and so on). Within its columns a stage's slope still stretches with its time value; release starts after a short sustain hold. Handles stay draggable.
- New: Edits made while a sync is running are held, with a notice, and sent to the 01/W when the sync finishes.
v1.9.1 — One Sync for Everything
- Changed: SYNC HW now reads all programs AND all combinations in one go, with one progress bar ("SYNCING PROGRAMS…", then "SYNCING COMBIS…"). Previously it only read whichever library was showing, and the combi sync had no progress feedback.
- New: When the editor opens and the 01/W answers, both libraries are read automatically.
- New: If the 01/W doesn't answer the all-combinations request, combis are read one at a time instead.
- Fixed: WRITE PROG / WRITE COMBI are now the same width, and INIT PROG keeps its space on the Combi tab, so the header no longer shifts.
v1.9.0 — 01/W Disk Images (Gotek / HxC)
- New: OPEN DISK IMAGE in the Librarian reads Gotek/HxC .HFE floppy images (and raw .IMG). The editor decodes the floppy tracks itself, finds the 01/W bank files, and lists their programs and combinations in a DISK view. Duplicate copies on the same disk are shown once.
- New: Click any disk program or combi to audition it — it goes to the 01/W's edit buffer and into the editor, ready to tweak and WRITE to any slot. Nothing in the 01/W's memory changes until you write.
- New: Copy a disk bank into Librarian bank A or B (or LOAD WHOLE DISK), then SEND ALL to write it to the 01/W. SAVE AS .SYX converts a disk bank to standard SysEx.
- Format: each 01/W bank file starts with a "KORG!" header; 100 combinations (128 bytes) follow at +2692, then 100 programs (172 bytes) — the same formats used over SysEx.
v1.8.0 — Combinations
- New: Combi tab — eight timbre strips (OFF/INT/EXT, program, MIDI channel, level, pan, transpose, detune, velocity zone, and the Aftertouch / Damper / Control / Program change filters), a keyboard zone map with draggable zone ends, and the combination's effects using the same cards as programs.
- New: The Librarian has PROGRAMS / COMBIS. Combis sync, load, copy/paste, drag-swap, import/export and SEND ALL like programs; WRITE stores the combination when you're on the Combi tab or the combi Librarian.
- New: Every combi setting updates the 01/W live (addresses from the GEOVERIFY combi mapping run).
- Safety: Program and combi settings share the same live addresses on the 01/W, so the editor now follows the 01/W's mode announcements and switches it to Program or Combi mode before sending anything. A change can never land in the wrong mode.
- Unverified yet: the All Combination dump used by SYNC HW / SEND ALL, the combi write command, and the names of timbre pan values.
v1.7.1 — Waveshape Table OFF
- Fixed: Waveshape tables stored as 128 showed as "RAW 128" but are OFF on the 01/W (confirmed on A25 SolarBells and A26 RezzzzBass). Any stored value of 128 or above now shows as OFF.
v1.7.0 — Layout Tidy-Up
- Changed: Pitch tab now matches Filter and Amp — a controls card (EG velocity and each oscillator's pitch EG intensity) beside the Pitch EG display, with OSC 1 / OSC 2 Pitch MG in two columns underneath.
- New: Waveshaping envelopes get their own display, like the other EGs: Start level, decaying over Decay time to Sustain, with draggable handles. Table, velocity and emphasis sit in the card beside it.
- Removed: the Verify and Inspector tabs. Hardware verification is complete; the same tools live on in the standalone GEOVERIFY app.
v1.6.0 — Effect Switches, Pan, Bit 4
- New: FX 1 On and FX 2 On switches in each effect card. Each effect's on/off is two bits in byte 151 (FX 1 = bits 0-1, FX 2 = bits 2-3), which the 01/W always changes together. Choosing an effect type no longer implies it is switched on.
- Changed: Pan is now a knob that runs A (fully left) to B (fully right) with 5:5 at its centre, plus C / C+D / D / ALL destination buttons. Previously one knob covered all 15 values, which put 3:7 at its centre.
- Removed: the Cutoff MG "Bit 4" checkbox. No panel setting changed that bit in any verification round, so it isn't a real control; the editor now preserves it exactly as each program has it.
v1.5.0 — Paced Live Streaming
- Fixed: Live edits (most noticeably dragging EG handles) arrived 1-2 seconds late. The 01/W handles each parameter message slowly, so a fast drag queued up inside it. Changes now go through a pacer that sends one message at a time at a steady rate and keeps only the newest value for each setting, so nothing backs up and the final value always arrives.
- New: FAST / NORMAL / SAFE speed setting next to LIVE (50 / 100 / 200ms between messages). NORMAL is the default; use SAFE if your 01/W still lags, FAST if it keeps up.
- Changed: Parameter messages the 01/W sends back are summarised in LOGS instead of logged one by one.
v1.4.2 — Verify Housekeeping
- Fixed: Verify results from an earlier run could reappear in a new report. Results are now kept per version, so each release starts with a clean checklist.
- Changed: The Verify tab now states that all hardware checks are complete; the steps remain for re-checking only.
v1.4.1 — Round 4 Results
- Fixed: EG stage switches had + and − swapped. Round 4 showed "+" sets the polarity bit and "−" clears it.
- New: EG stage switches now stream live, one message per stage, instead of resending the whole program.
- Confirmed: Cutoff MG selector names and values — Off, OSC 1, OSC 2, BOTH.
v1.4.0 — Real-Time Parameter Streaming
- New: True real-time editing. Round 3 proved the 01/W accepts the same parameter-change message it sends while you edit on its panel, and the hands-off map found the address of 134 of the 168 controls. Those now stream their own small message as you turn them — like CC on the Mask — instead of resending the whole program. The rest (multisound bank, pitch MG key sync, EG stage switches, effect P1-P8, effect setup bytes) still send the full program on release.
- New: Changing Osc Mode now asks the 01/W to switch and reads back everything it changes along with it, the same way effect types already do.
- Fixed: Cutoff MG "OSC 1 / OSC 2" is one selector (OFF / OSC 1 / OSC 2 / BOTH), not two switches — that's why the OSC 2 step never behaved.
- Labels: Pan now runs A, 9:1 … 1:9, B, C, D, C+D, ALL; placement is SERIAL / PARALLEL / PARALLEL 2; MG waveforms confirmed as TRIANGLE, SAW UP, SAW DOWN, SQUARE, RANDOM.
- Changed: Verify Round 4 — four quick naming checks.
v1.3.0 — Round 2 Results, Hands-Off Mapping
- Confirmed: EG time switch & polarity — four stages per byte, left to right, each OFF / + / −. Waveshape table 00-59 with 255 = OFF. Effect placement lives in bits 4-5 of byte 151, and effects are switched off by setting their type to 00. Cutoff MG frequency, delay and intensity, and the aftertouch/joystick settings, all confirmed where the editor already had them.
- Fixed: Changing an effect type now loads that type's default parameters, the way the 01/W's panel does — the editor asks the 01/W to change the type and reads the result back (once the 01/W is confirmed to accept parameter changes). Before, the old type's parameters were left behind.
- New: Verify Round 3 — a hands-off test of whether the 01/W accepts parameter-change messages, and a hands-off mapper that finds which address controls every byte (the groundwork for true real-time knob streaming), plus a page to type in display names.
- Changed: Verify reads the 01/W sooner after each change (150ms), so fewer quick presses get merged into one reading.
v1.2.0 — Hardware-Verified Mappings, Smooth Live Editing
- Fixed: Live editing was jerky and made the 01/W display flash — every knob step resent the whole program, and the 01/W redraws for each one. Knob and EG-handle drags now update the editor while you move and send once on release; clicks, menus and the mouse wheel batch into one send after a short pause.
- Confirmed from the round-1 Verify report: Mono/Hold bits, Cutoff MG wave (bits 0-3) with OSC 1 on bit 5 and key sync on bit 7, Pitch MG wave + key sync, both keyboard-track-mode nibbles, pan range 0-14, EG time KBD/velocity amounts, multisound range, and the Write command (the 01/W answers "write complete").
- Corrected: Cutoff MG OSC 1 / key-sync bits were swapped with guesses one bit off.
- New: Effects mapped properly — each effect has its type, balance (stored in two mirrored bytes, now written to both), dynamic modulation source and intensity, and 8 parameter bytes; FX 2 sits exactly 10 bytes after FX 1. Setup/routing bytes shown separately.
- New: EG time switch & polarity bytes are now OFF / + / − per segment instead of raw bits — every factory program fits "low 4 bits = segment on, high 4 bits = polarity".
- Changed: Verify is now Round 2 — only the 10 items still open. It reads the 01/W right after each parameter-change message the synth sends as you edit, with a slow 2-second fallback, instead of polling constantly.
v1.1.0 — Guided Hardware Verification
- New: Verify tab — a 23-step checklist covering every unconfirmed setting. Change one thing on the 01/W; the editor detects which byte and bits moved, records it, and moves on. Single-change steps advance by themselves; sweep steps log every change in order until DONE.
- New: Two capture modes. EDIT BUFFER reads the 01/W's current program several times a second with no saving; SCRATCH SLOT is the fallback if the 01/W only reports stored programs (write to a spare slot, then CAPTURE). Step 1 tells you which one your 01/W needs.
- New: COPY REPORT / SAVE .TXT produce a plain-text report of every step. Any other SysEx the 01/W sends during the session (such as parameter-change messages) is included, as is a write-command test.
- Safety: Live edit is paused while Verify runs, so the editor never overwrites the change it is measuring. Progress is kept if the page reloads.
v1.0.0 — First Release for the Korg 01/W
- New: Full program editor on the GEOMASK platform — Program, Pitch, Filter (VDF), Amp (VDA), Waveshape, Modulation and Effects tabs covering every byte of the 172-byte 01/W program.
- New: 01/W multi-stage EG editor with draggable handles for the Pitch, VDF and VDA envelopes (attack, decay to break point, slope, sustain, release), drawn around a zero line for the bipolar EGs.
- New: Librarian for all 200 programs (A00-B99). SYNC HW pulls everything in one All Program dump; SEND ALL pushes it back the same way. Drag to swap, copy/paste, per-slot import/export.
- New: Live editing by resending the whole program to the 01/W edit buffer (debounced), avoiding the not-yet-mapped parameter-change message.
- New: Byte Inspector tab — every program byte colour-coded Confirmed / Verify / Unmapped, with direct editing, for checking the remaining unconfirmed encodings against hardware.
- New: DETECT sends a Device Inquiry, confirms the 01/W is answering, and sets the Global Channel from its reply.
- Files: Reads single program dumps, All Program dumps, and SoundTower .1pl libraries. Writes standard .syx.
Verification Status
- Confirmed from real dumps: SysEx header, 7-in-8 packing, single and All Program dump formats (byte-exact round trip), name, oscillator mode, multisound + ROM/Card bank, octave, and the pitch EG, VDF, VDA, waveshape and pitch MG value bytes.
- Flagged VERIFY in the UI: bit-packed bytes (assign/hold, cutoff MG wave + enables, pitch MG wave + sync, KBD track modes, EG switch/polarity masks), waveshape table special values, pan labels, and the 27 effect parameter bytes.
- Unconfirmed MIDI commands: program write request (11), and the reply codes 21-24. The editor reports clearly when a write isn't confirmed.
Write Program
Sends the program to the 01/W edit buffer, then requests a write to the slot. GLOBAL memory protect must be off.
